CES 2025
Nintendo is the only one not showing Switch 2: a peripheral company shows a replica in full detail
Genki claims that this mockup has the exact dimensions of the Japanese company’s new device.
It sounds like a joke, but it’s not. Nintendo Switch 2, the next-generation Japanese console, has been in the spotlight for a long time. It’s just that the information hasn’t come from Nintendo itself, but from other channels. Just a few days ago, images of the alleged new Joy-Con were leaked, apparently from a factory in China. At the end of 2024, a youtuber showed a mockup of the console that a peripheral company had given him. Now, in the middle of CES 2025, another company has done the same, showing a replica of the device that some have already been able to hold in their hands.
German media outlet Netzwelt was able to get its hands on Genki’s Switch 2 replica, which the company says has “exactly the same dimensions” as the real thing. According to the publication, it feels much bulkier in the hands than the Nintendo Switch, while the Joy-Con pops out from the sides rather than the top like the original console. According to all the leaks, the controllers will feature a magnetic system, making them easier to attach and detach from the console. According to Genki, it will be released in April.
A new button on one of the Joy-Con?
According to Genki’s mock-up, the right Joy-Con has an additional button that was not present on the Nintendo Switch, although its functionality has not been detailed.
Nintendo, for its part, has limited itself to reporting that the Switch 2 will be fully backwards compatible with the previous console. Despite rumors that it will be unveiled in January, there has been no statement to date. President Shuntaro Furukawa said on Nintendo’s social media that there will be news before the end of the current fiscal year, which means before March 31, 2025.
