Nintendo President Refuses to Comment on Nintendo Switch Successor

The last three months have been good for Nintendo, with an operating profit of over 94.5 billion yen ($627,823 million) and revenue of 334.9 billion yen ($2.224 billion). Despite this, Nintendo President Shuntaro Furukawa denied any questions about the successor console to the Nintendo Switch.

According to a Bloomberg report, these figures exceed the forecasts of Japanese economic analysts, indicating that the low yen and overseas sales are helping to boost Nintendo’s software and hardware sales. Especially because this 2023 is the sixth year of the hybrid console on the market and it can still surpass the 154 million Nintendo DS sold in history and the 155 million PlayStation 2.

Relative to those titles and the age of the console, more Nintendo Switch (+2.4%) and games (+1.8%) were sold in the first six months of the fiscal year than in the same period last year, though those numbers are still down. To reach 19.5 million units sold, Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom sold one million units in the last few months alone. Pikmin 4 has also been confirmed to have sold 2.61 million units in its first six weeks on sale.

Furukawa concluded, “In that same month we released Detective Pikachu Returns, and heading into the holiday season we plan to release more titles, including WarioWare: Move It! and Super Mario RPG (both set for release in November).
