Nintendo Switch 2 gains Handheld Boost Mode with latest update, enhancing backward compatibility
The feature improves visual performance but with some drawbacks.

Nintendo has released a new update, version 22.0.0, for its hybrid consoles, the Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2, introducing a new feature for the latest model.
Starting with this update, the Nintendo Switch 2 will be able to run original Switch titles more smoothly thanks to the “Handheld Boost Mode” feature. Beyond the performance upgrades, version 22.0.0 brings several quality-of-life improvements to the entire ecosystem. Users can now add private notes to friends on their Friend List—a handy way to remember who is who—without the other person seeing the comments. The update also introduces GameChat enhancements, new accessibility options like text-to-speech for the Album, and the ability to fast-forward or rewind eShop trailers by 10 seconds. While the original Switch update is more modest, focusing on the friend notes and stability, the Switch 2 version clearly signals Nintendo’s commitment to making its backward-compatible library feel more “next-gen.”
