Update:

It has been almost four months since the Nintendo Switch 2 hit stores around the world, and despite a rocky launch due to its price, tariffs, and other controversies, the new hybrid console has managed to exceed initial projections.

Nintendo has announced that 10.36 million units have already been sold, making Switch 2 the company’s best-selling console in this period. This also calls for a readjustment in sales forecast, with an increase from 15 to 19 million units before the end of March 2026. It is noteworthy that it doubles the figures for the first Switch (which sold 4.7 million units in its first six months), while surpassing those of PS4 and PS5 (the latter reaching 7.8 million units, although it should be remembered that there were stock problems).

As for games, Mario Kart World has been a smash hit with 9.57 million copies sold, while Donkey Kong Bananza has reached 3.49 million units sold. The immediate future of Nintendo Switch 2 has several titles to look forward to: Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment arrives on November 6; Kirby Air Riders on November 20; and Metroid Prime 4: Beyond on December 4.

Its predecessor remains strong

Although the Nintendo Switch 2 has been out for four months, the original console continues to enjoy strong sales momentum. In the last six months, the Nintendo Switch 1 has reached the 154 million units sold. This figure brings it close to breaking one of its own records, as it is just 10,000 units away from surpassing its best-selling device, the Nintendo DS. However, the real goal will be to surpass the PlayStation 2, the best-selling console in history, which is only 6 million units ahead. Nintendo expects the Nintendo Switch 1 to reach 156 million units by March 2026.
