Nintendo Switch is now officially the longest console without a successor in Nintendo history

And that number is only going to grow, considering there are still months to go until the launch of Nintendo Switch 2.

We’d say it seems like yesterday, but... it doesn’t, and it’s been more than 7 years since the Nintendo Switch launched. In fact, it was on March 3 that the Nintendo’s hybrid hit stores around the world, making it a whopping 2,687 days since then, a number that is not only overwhelming, but also marks a milestone for Kyoto, becoming the console that has remained on sale the longest without ever seeing a successor.

Nintendo Switch, a record-breaking machine

And the fact is that these 2,687 days serve to surpass the one that was in first place until now, which was none other than the Super Nintendo, which was on the market for 2,686 days without seeing the launch of the next model, Nintendo 64. Obviously, this figure will only increase, since there are still months to go before the arrival of what we will call for now Nintendo Switch 2, which according to the Japanese company would arrive before March 1, 2025. In this sense, the Nintendo Switch would reach a number of days that will hardly be surpassed one day.

In contrast, Nintendo’s biggest hardware stumble to date is none other than the Wii U. It was on the market for 1,566 days before the Nintendo Switch arrived, with a lifecycle that Nintendo undoubtedly shortened due to the sales failure of the Wii’s successor.

It should also be made clear that although we are talking about a console that can be played both on the desktop and portable, we are only talking about desktop consoles. When it comes to portable consoles, the Game Boy set a record that will never be broken, as it was present in our lives for no less than 4,352 days before the Game Boy Advance was released.
