No, the Like button in X hasn’t changed because of the US elections: the reason your feed is filled with this fake

Once again, the Like button on X (formerly Twitter) is said to be changing, this time as part of the current U.S. election.

Today is an important day in the United States, as the next president of the country will be elected. Whether it is Kamala Harris or Donald Trump, a nation’s choice is being made today, and social media is playing an important role as part of the political propaganda strategy of both parties.

In the last few hours, a video has been circulating on the social network X (formerly Twitter) through several accounts reporting that the “like” icon has changed for the elections in favor of Donald Trump. As one can see firsthand by liking any other publication, whether of the current elections or not, we can see that this is false.

It is no secret that Elon Musk supports Donald Trump’s policies, as well as his possible return to the White House. However, this kind of publications achieve that Donald Trump’s name can be placed as a trending topic within the platform. However, if you want a special icon on the platform, don’t forget to use #ElectionDay.

It is not the first time that there has been a “change” in the Like button of X

Ever since Elon Musk took over Twitter on October 27, 2022 to rebrand it as X, people have been playing with the idea that these changes could happen without actually showing anything. The first and most viral of these supposed changes happened in July 2023, when it went viral that the classic heart would become the X icon.

This has happened with events and other brands. Last August, it was reported that “Elon Musk has temporarily changed the like button for a test phase,” which turned out to be false.
