Olympic sports are being recreated in Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom

The Olympic flame arrives in Hyrule.

We may not have a game dedicated to the Paris 2024 Olympics, but how about one set in Hyrule? Last year, we had months of content where users of The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom showed us their creativity by building everything from peace-bringing machinery to Ganondorf, torture machines to Koroks, mechas, and everything else you can imagine. That creativity never really died, and now one player has decided to use the game’s construction mechanic to make Hyrule the site of a very unique Olympic Games.

Reddit user FortyTwoer has compiled videos of Link and a Korok competing in various Olympic events in Hyrule. Using either the natural abilities of Hyrule’s hero or the Zonai technology, they perform activities such as pole vault, sprint, discus, triple jump, and more.

A second video takes the competition to another level, literally, with diving, break dancing, horseback riding and weight lifting:

A third video takes us into the world of skateboarding and a kind of soccer:

Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, beyond the video game.

The last great title of The Legend of Zelda on Nintendo Switch brought us a great story that took advantage of the resources of its predecessor, Breath of the Wild. But at the same time, the game became a great playground, where the construction mode not only unleashed the creativity of many but also allowed it to be used in other ways. This was the case for a professor at the University of Maryland, who chose the game as a learning tool for his engineering students in a course called “The Legend of Zelda: A Link to Machine Design”.
