Ubisoft

One of the most controversial Assassin's Creed protagonists will not be in Shadows and will be removed from the saga's lore

In addition, Ubisoft has confirmed that there will be a Canon Mode in which players will not have to make any decisions.

Valentine’s Day (February 14) is not only eagerly awaited by lovers, it is also the release date of Assassin’s Creed Shadows, one of the great games of 2025. The new adventure of the Ubisoft saga, set in Japan, is well marked in the calendars of millions of people, and as the moment approaches, its creators take the opportunity to stop by Reddit and offer some very interesting news, including the confirmation that Basim will not be in the game.

Basim bids farewell to Assassin’s Creed

A user asked the developers if the character in question will be present in Assassin’s Creed Shadows, and the answer could not be more blunt: “Basim is not currently part of the story.” Basim Ibn Ishaq is one of the most important and complex characters in the Assassin’s Creed saga, as his story spans several games, and in the latest installment, Assassin’s Creed Mirage, he became the main protagonist.

Basim first appeared in Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, a game in which, after meeting and encountering him several times, he is eventually revealed to be the reincarnation of Loki himself, the God of Deception. It is convenient to know that the story of Valhalla takes place 20 years after that of Mirage.

Many fans were hoping that Basim’s story would continue in the next installments of the saga, but it seems that Ubisoft has decided to wipe the slate clean with him. However, some are still hopeful, because despite the negative response from one of his creators, this “currently” opens the door to news about Basim in the future, perhaps in a hypothetical expansion, or maybe in other Assassin’s Creed games?

This is Assassin’s Creed Shadows Canon Mode

Another of the most striking news is that Ubisoft has shown that it is listening to the fans of the franchise, as many have been asking for years that the new games focus on solid storytelling. Said and done: Assassin’s Creed will have a Canon Mode.

In recent installments of the Ubisoft saga, we have become accustomed to making certain choices that change the course of the story, despite having preconceived characters that cannot be edited. Well, in Assassin’s Creed Shadows we will have the possibility to play in Canon Mode, a style of play that relies on narrative linearity. In other words, all the choices made by the characters will be fixed, as if it were a closed story, just like in the first Assassin’s Creed.
