Rocks D. Xebec makes his long-awaited debut
First mentioned back in chapter 907 (June 2018), Rocks D. Xebec was known as the fearsome captain of the Rocks Pirates, a crew so powerful that Gol D. Roger and Garp had to join forces to defeat them at God Valley. Now, in chapter 1154, Xebec finally appears, complete with a design that embodies the archetypal pirate: towering, menacing, and unmistakably iconic.

But his arrival isn’t just visual fan service, it’s a turning point for the series.
Confirmed: Rocks D. Xebec is Blackbeard’s father
In a reveal that’s been theorized for years, Eiichiro Oda confirms that Marshall D. Teach (Blackbeard) is the biological son of Rocks D. Xebec. Despite the lack of shared surname, the connection is now canon, adding new depth to Blackbeard’s ambitions and explaining the name of his ship, the Saber of Xebec.
Xebec’s appearance also includes striking visual similarities to Teach: the same jawline, nose, and eyes, though Xebec sports two-toned hair and a leaner build.
A violent past and political intrigue
Chapter 1154 reveals that Xebec once attended a Reverie and assassinated a Marine Admiral, an act that made him a wanted man even before forming his legendary crew. His arrival in Elbaph, nearly two decades before God Valley, is tied to a meeting with King Harald, suggesting deeper ties to the political landscape of the ‘One Piece’ world.
What this means for the endgame
With Xebec’s legacy now tied directly to Blackbeard, fans are re-evaluating the villain’s role in the final saga. Is Teach carrying out his father’s unfinished plans? Will the World Government’s buried secrets finally come to light?
As 'One Piece' races toward its conclusion, chapter 1154 proves that Oda still has plenty of surprises left, and that the past holds the key to the future.
