'One Piece Fan Letter' makes history and becomes the highest-rated anime of 2024
The 25th Anniversary Special of One Piece has turned out to be a work of art that perfectly captures how Eiichiro Oda’s work affects people.
Megumi Ishitani has done it again. Not content with directing what many consider to be the most beautiful episode of ‘One Piece’ (1015, the one where Yamato Yamato saw Gol D. Roger reflected in Luffy), the talented and highly contrasting director has just given us a special that is already listed on IMDb as the best anime of 2024.
Called ‘One Piece Fan Letter’ and available on Crunchyroll, this is a 24-minute short film based on the novel ‘One Piece Novel: Straw Hat Stories’. It is a tribute to the 25th anniversary of the series and has a user rating of 9.04 on IMDb. For comparison, the second highest rated special is the finale of ‘Shingeki no Kyojin’ with a rating of 8.88.
The chapter shows how the Straw Hats have changed the lives of all of us, and it does so by telling some of the great moments of the series (such as the Marineford War) from a previously unknown point of view: that of the ordinary citizens of the Grand Line. Here, the protagonists are not great pirates and warriors, but people who are insignificant to Luffy’s story, but still affected by it. How rough is this world for a Marine, for example?
The synopsis is as follows: “A young girl obsessed with Nami dreams of meeting her, until one day the Straw Hats arrive in her region, the Sabaody Archipelago. Torn between the fear of encountering pirates and the illusion of meeting the cat burglar, the little girl disguises herself as a pirate and begins searching everywhere. Her adventure will lead her to infiltrate the False Mugiwaras and face the fearsome Sentomaru’s Pacifists. Will she succeed in finding her idol?”
