Overwatch 2 details Vendetta, its new melee attack hero
The game’s first melee DPS surprises with mobility, defense, and an ultimate capable of breaking any shield.

It’s surprising to think that Overwatch already has 45 characters, and even more surprising that the game is about to turn 10 years old. Earlier this week, Blizzard introduced Vendetta, a new attack hero focused entirely on melee DPS, with a connection that some players may have forgotten. Vendetta is a strong woman, wielding a huge sword, a true gladiator. Before her official presentation, we had the opportunity to attend an early reveal of the character and learn more about what she will offer players.
Vendetta has a history that perhaps not many remember. If you played the temporary mission Retribution a few years ago—the one where you controlled the members of Blackwatch: Reaper, Cassidy, Genji, and Moira—you’ll remember that the target was Antonio Bartalotti, a Talon criminal... and Vendetta’s father. Now, as an adult and following her father’s teachings, she has become a formidable fighter, known as The Colosseum’s Lupa.
Vendetta, a melee attack character to be feared
During the presentation, we were shown Vendetta’s main moves, and boy, we’ll have to watch out for that sword.
- Palatine Flame: her basic attack. She uses a huge sword with a combo of two slashes and a final downward blow, which inflicts critical damage.
- Whirlwind Dash: her first skill. Vendetta lunges forward spinning like a whirlwind, inflicting area damage and also functioning as a cross-movement.
- Soaring Slice: her second ability. It propels her into the air by throwing her sword upwards, allowing for vertical movement.
- Warding Stance: her secondary shot. It is a defensive stance that mitigates 75% of damage taken. Like any shield, it wears down as it absorbs hits.
- Projected Edge: an attack that can only be used within Warding Stance; it launches a projectile forward.
- Sundering Blade: her ultimate ability. Vendetta charges her sword and can damage all enemies regardless of their defense, armor, shield, or extra health, dealing up to 400 damage points. When activated, the camera switches to third person.

Playing Overwatch means knowing that your attack can sometimes be a little weak if it’s not well protected. In the case of Vendetta, who is the first Melee DPS hero, this is a major concern, as she is a character who goes into direct, close contact without being a tank. However, during the presentation, it was clarified that she has 275 health points, and that her Warding Stance ability allows her to adopt a defensive posture to avoid being easily eliminated. Even so, it will be vital to keep an eye on cooldown times and take advantage of her mobility tools to avoid being exposed.
