Paramount’s Call of Duty movie fins its director for big screen adaptation

The director–writer team promises a grounded, high-intensity take on the global gaming phenomenon.

Call of Duty Advanced Warfare
Update:

In early September this year, Paramount Pictures surprised everyone with the announcement of a partnership with Activision to bring the successful Call of Duty franchise to the big screen. And it hasn’t been long before the studio announced who will be directing this upcoming video game adaptation.

Peter Berg, who has worked on dramas such as Friday Night Lights, Lone Survivor, Deepwater Horizon, and Patriots Day, will be in charge of this project as director. His role will also see him take on the role of writer and producer of the project alongside Taylor Sheridan, who has had a successful career with Paramount series such as Yellowstone, Mayor of Kingstown, Tulsa King, and Landman. The duo already has credits working together and even has four Academy Award nominations. David Glasser will also be supporting the production.

Call of Duty to the movies, a plan still in development

Being at such an early stage in its development, the film still has details that remain to be seen. Throughout its many installments, Call of Duty has covered various fronts and time periods, from World War II to future wars, although in its statement Paramount mentioned that the film will be “designed to thrill its massive global fan base by delivering on the hallmarks of what fans love about the iconic series, while boldly expanding the franchise to entirely new audiences.”

On the other hand, Activision will only participate in this film as a creative collaborator, but its plan will change depending on the success of this film. The plan of both groups is ambitious, so much so that there is even talk of an interconnected universe with video games depending on the success of this release.
