Patrick Stewart’s role in ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ could mark the end of his career

An insider notes that ‘Doomsday’ could be his last work in front of the cameras, in a return that brings his Professor X character full circle.

Patrick Stewart Charles Xavier Deadpool 3

Patrick Stewart will once again step into the shoes of Charles Xavier in 'Avengers: Doomsday,' a role already confirmed in the star-studded cast of the Russo brothers’ new film. Marvel itself and the industry’s leading media outlets have detailed his presence alongside other X-Men veterans such as Ian McKellen, James Marsden, Rebecca Romijn, Alan Cumming, and Kelsey Grammer.

What is relevant now is that, according to several publications that have reported on information provided by commentator Kristian Harloff, this appearance could be Stewart’s last in cinema. The actor would bid farewell to acting with one of the characters that made him a reference point for an entire generation of viewers. This has not been officially confirmed.

If that farewell finally materializes, it would be a fitting end to a career that has alternated between Shakespeare, ‘Star Trek,’ and the mutant universe itself. It is worth remembering that, despite saying goodbye to Xavier after ‘Logan’ (2017), Stewart made a surprise return in 2022 with a cameo in ‘Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness’, leaving the door open for further appearances.

What we know about ‘Avengers: Doomsday’

‘Avengers: Doomsday’ is Marvel’s big event for late 2026, with the Russos back at the helm and a huge cast that brings together the Avengers, Fantastic Four, and X-Men in the same battle. The theatrical release is scheduled for December 18, 2026, following the latest schedule adjustment announced this year.

Given that ‘Doomsday’ marks the grand beginning of the mutants’ journey in the MCU (excluding ‘Deadpool and Wolverine’), once the issue of their rights was resolved with Fox, it would make poetic sense for one of the most relevant figures from their previous stage to give them the necessary impetus to start a new one with their farewell.
