‘Peacemaker’ season 2 brings back a character who died in the DCEU, but there’s a catch
The third episode of the second season of ‘Peacemaker’ brings back a key character for Chris Smith, who died in ‘The Suicide Squad’ (2021).

The second season of ‘Peacemaker’ is one of DC’s most eagerly awaited releases, as following the arrival of ‘Superman’ a few months ago, it serves to delve deeper into the composition of James Gunn’s new DCU. In this regard, the series continues to generate a lot of excitement, as one of its episodes has brought back a key character from the DCEU who died in ‘The Suicide Squad’ (2021): Rick Flag Jr., played by Joel Kinnaman. However, there is a catch: while the original is dead and buried, this new Rick Flag is from an alternate dimension.

‘Peacemaker’ rescues Rick Flag Jr., but it’s his doppelganger from a parallel dimension
Episode 3 of the second season of Peacemaker, titled “Another Rick Up His Sleeve,” already hints at where things are headed from the episode’s title alone. Chris (John Cena), heartbroken because Harcourt (Jennifer Holland) from his universe has rejected him, crosses the dimensional portal and ends up in the parallel dimension where he and his family are heroes, ready to start a romance with the alternate Harcourt. However, there is a problem: this version of Emilia is in a relationship with Rick Flag Jr. (Joel Kinnaman).

This causes an awkward confrontation between the two at A.R.G.U.S. headquarters: Peacemaker still feels guilty for killing Rick Flag from his dimension during the events of Suicide Squad, while the alternate Rick Flag is uncomfortable with “Chris” visiting his current partner, as they previously had a romantic relationship. Flag’s justified jealousy leads to a couple of humorous gags where he tries to eavesdrop on the conversation between Chris and Harcourt without being seen... with comical results.

The issue of the alternate dimension has also served to bring back other characters who had previously died, such as Auggie Smith (Robert Patrick) himself, known as the supremacist supervillain White Dragon. Again, while the original was killed by Peacemaker, his own son, during the first season of the series, the character’s reappearance is justified by the fact that he is his heroic version, residing in an alternate dimension. Apparently, James Gunn is making the most of the issue of duality between dimensions, which is giving certain actors a new opportunity to reprise their roles.
