Peacock’s Twisted Metal TV adaptation gets its first teaser full of weaponized cars and creepy clowns

The first ever teaser trailer for Peacock’s adaptation of Twisted Metal, the PlayStation franchise about vehicular combat and supernatural tournaments, is here.

Twisted Metal

Buckle up, because here comes yet another video game adaptation to TV. Following in the steps of The Last of Us, PlayStation joined forces with Peacock to create a Twisted Metal live-action series starring Anthony Mackie and Stephanie Beatriz. Now we have a first, very promising teaser trailer, which shows off the protagonist getting ready for some action, and our first look at the legendary Sweet Tooth.

The show has been a bit of a mystery ever since it was first announced a couple of years ago, but what we did now is that they’ve never intended for the series to be a grim, realistic affair. Described as an action comedy, and with only 10 episodes total to tell their story, it seems like it’ll be a bit of a rollercoaster ride focused on outlandish situations, just as the games from source material.

The insane world of Twisted Metal

The official synopsis of the show, according to Peacock themselves, is as follows:

“Twisted Metal, a half-hour live-action TV series based on the classic PlayStation game series, is a high-octane action comedy, based on an original take by Rhett Reese & Paul Wernick and written by Michael Jonathan Smith, about a motor-mouthed outsider offered a chance at a better life, but only if he can successfully deliver a mysterious package across a post-apocalyptic wasteland. With the help of a badass axe-wielding car thief, he’ll face savage marauders driving vehicles of destruction and other dangers of the open road, including a deranged clown who drives an all too familiar ice cream truck.”

The teaser certainly has a humorous tone, with fast cuts and catchy music all around as if inspired by Edgar Wright’s movies. However, we do get a quick reminder that things will still get pretty dark thanks to, at the very least, the franchise’s iconic killer clown, Sweet Tooth. We’re just hoping we get to see a man strapped to two giant wheels driving around.

I mean, seriously.
