Pentiment and Grounded, the first Xbox Games to arrive on Nintendo Switch
The first Nintendo Direct of the year gave us the scoop on the first Xbox Game Studios titles coming to other platforms.
As part of the Nintendo Direct Partner Showcase, the first Xbox titles coming to other consoles were revealed. The big surprise was not the much-rumored Hi-Fi Rush, but two titles that fit the description Phil Spencer gave last week.
Grounded and Pentiment coming soon to Nintendo Switch
Against all odds, the two other Obsidian Entertainment titles were the ones chosen to be part of the first 4 games that Xbox will release on other consoles. The presentation started with Grounded, the survivor game that takes elements from Honey, I Shrunk the Kids and will arrive in early access in July 2020 to reach its final version on September 27, 2022. Grounded will be released on Nintendo Switch on April 16, 2024.
On the other hand, we had the announcement of Pentiment, a detective game set in the late Middle Ages and featuring that art style, coming out on November 15, 2022. Although it was shown as part of the Nintendo Direct’s Classic Sizzle Reel, it has the distinction of being the first title to come to an ecosystem outside of Xbox, coming to Nintendo Switch tomorrow, February 22, 2024.
What about PlayStation?
For now, it has not been detailed whether these titles will also arrive on PlayStation 5 on the same dates. It remains to be seen what will happen with other rumored titles like Tango Gameworks’ Hi-Fi Rush or Rare’s Sea of Thieves, which are also set to arrive on other consoles.
A different future for Xbox
Just last week, on the Xbox Official Podcast, the heads of Xbox talked about the much-rumored change in the company’s business model. While the rumors pointed to a name change, a move away from console production, or an exit from the console wars, it all turned out to be an expansion of Xbox games to other consoles that will begin this year.
