Persona director speaks about rumors of remakes for the first two games of the franchise

Persona has become one of the flagship series in the RPG genre, and rumors of full remakes of the first two games in the series have started to surface.

Persona is one of the biggest names in gaming, a JRPG series that brings enjoyment to millions of players who dream of new installments or remakes of its most classic titles. The director of Persona, Kazuhisa Wada, spoke with GameSpot where he was asked multiple questions about the franchise and its titles. One of them has to do with the first two installments and the rumors surrounding their remake.

When asked about a possible remake of the first two installments of the saga, the director of the franchise responded “It is not on my schedule right now. I would like to do it someday.” Wada also talked about the biggest challenge of making a remake of a game that came out almost two decades ago such as Persona 3, to which he responded that “The most difficult task was to create a production structure and get the project drafted and approved. From there, we had to find the best way to convey the essence of the content, which was divisive at the time, and how to tune it for the better. It was equally challenging, but also just as important and rewarding, to find a way to portray both Metis, a character who had not appeared for almost 20 years, and the game’s themes in an appealing way.”

Atlus are masters of the RPG

One of the most anticipated games of 2024 is Metaphor: ReFantazio, a title that aims to be a JRPG gem and a new masterpiece by Atlus, and Kazuhisa Wada answered the question of the impact that some members of the team have been working on Metaphor: ReFantazio may have on the Persona saga : “Many years ago, one of the issues we wanted to solve as a company was to improve the organization’s development capacity. Fortunately, today, there are very talented young and mid-career people who do not stop growing thanks to projects like P3R and P5R, so if you ask us about the impact on the future from now on, the answer can only be be for the better.”

Persona is today a fully established saga in the video game industry. The fifth installment was a turning point that brought to the fore a franchise that exudes quality everywhere, and that began to go viral after its third and fourth installment. That is why a remake of the first two seems necessary for many players, renewing and giving a new perspective to the beginning of the Shin Megami Tensei spin-off that managed to be more popular than the saga of which it is a part.
