Play all day or just take a banana break: Donkey Kong Bananza puts you in control

Whether you’re chasing golden bananas or just smashing through layers with Pauline, Donkey Kong Bananza adapts to your pace.

Update:

Donkey Kong Bananza has officially launched for Nintendo Switch 2, and players are already diving into its mining-based platforming chaos. But how long does it actually take to beat? The answer depends on how deep you want to go... literally.

How long is Donkey Kong Bananza?

PlaystyleEstimated Time
Main story only10–15 hours
Main + side content20–30 hours
Completionist run50–60+ hours
Post-game extras+10 hours

Completionists will need to collect:

  • 777 Bananas
  • 696 Fossils
  • 110 Music Discs

Gameplay structure

The game is divided into 17 chapters, each with multiple sublayers. Players can mine vertically, uncover secrets, and unlock transformations like Smashin’ DK and Diva Pauline. The game’s pacing is flexible, perfect for short sessions or marathon runs.

Unlike traditional platformers, Bananza doesn’t require banana quotas to progress. That means players can choose their own pace, whether they’re focused on story, exploration, or completion. It’s a design choice from Nintendo that makes the game accessible to casual players while still offering depth for veterans.
