PlayStation is prepared to have “two or more” big releases every year on PS5

Sony and PlayStation double down on the PS5 and its exclusive titles, revealing that they’re ready to launch at least two games per year from now on.

Jim Ryan, president and CEO of Sony Interactive Entertainment, shared the future of the division during a meeting with investors. PlayStation Studios is preparing “two or more” important releases every year, which collectively will cover “every major genre”. What are those? Well shooter, Racing, RPG,Platformer, Action, and Sports.

Ryan points out that these projects will be a mix of”single player” experiences and “live services”. We can expect them to be based on big franchises and new intellectual properties. They also intend to expand the audiences of some of them to new platforms such as the mobile market.

For the fiscal year of 2025, the company will diversify its catalog as follows: 50% will be dedicated to experiences on PS5, 40% to PC and the remaining 10% to mobile. But not everything will be centered around PlayStation Studios. They intend to analyze development opportunities with external studios and collaborate in video games with already established teams.

Among the pillars of future growth we find a one dedicated to new intellectual properties. Firesprite, Housemarque, Valkyrie Entertainment and Bluepoint Studios. Yes, those in charge of the Demon’s Souls remake appear alongside other teams working on new brands. When it was acquired by PlayStation in 2021, they were the ones who alluded at the fact that they were working on original content for their next project, which marked “the next step” in its evolution.

What Jim Ryan shared this time agrees with his statements to Famitsu. In the interview, he explained that the division’s efforts were focused on increasing “the number of exclusives for PS5″. “PlayStation Studios’ main responsibility is to make people enjoy the gaming experience on the latest PlayStation. We are increasing the number of PS5 exclusive titles and staggering the release of PC versions,” he said.
