PlayStation Trophies could be making their way to PC, according to new datamine
Dataminers have found a Trophy listing on PlayStation 5 that might be pointing to the arrival of the feature on PC.
Nothing has been officially announced yet, but dataminers seem certain about the possibility that Trophies will make an appearance in PlayStation video games on PC. This is as True Trophies reported it, after looking into the inner workings of PSN to collect information about Trophies (the equivalent to Achievements on Xbox and Steam) when they are uploaded to the system.
According to what they shared, a listing labeled under the name “Trophy Set” has appeared. The peculiar thing about the matter is that in addition to PS5 there is an additional platform mentioned: PSPC. After investigating it, they have confirmed that it is a separate system from current consoles, but that it may share compatibility with the Trophies of the new generation Sony machine, in a similar way to what happened with the unified Trophies of PS4, PS Vita and PS3.
There are other clues: Trophies on PC?
In the absence of confirmation by the company, for now, this information must be taken with some caution. Clues indicate that PlayStation may be testing its games on PC. What is clear is that it is not the only indication that something like this could end up happening: using datamining, the compatibility of PSN with PC was discovered last year, in addition to Sony’s FAQ suggesting that PlayStation Trophies on PC may be a reality in the future.
PlayStation is heading towards a new era, thanks to the departure of its still CEO, Jim Ryan. The executive recently announced his intention to retire, a move that will become effective as of April 1, the date on which Hiroki Totoki will take over the reins of the company:
“I have announced my retirement after nearly 30 years at Sony Interactive Entertainment,” stated Ryan on an official message. I feel humbled at having the opportunity to lead a company delivering products that touch millions of lives. From award-winning games to the incredibly immersive technical achievements delivered with PlayStation 5, I’m immensely proud of what we have achieved and very optimistic for the future of Sony Interactive Entertainment.”
