Pokémon asks, “What’s your Favorite?” to kick off its 30th anniversary campaign during the Super Bowl
Update:

As Pokémon promised earlier this week, during Super Bowl LX we got a glimpse of a new commercial celebrating the franchise’s 30th anniversary. Having impacted more than one generation over the course of these three decades, to say that the brand has become a product that has permeated popular culture is an understatement. And no matter which generation you started with—whether it was the anime, Pokémon GO, or some other app—there is always one key question among fans: “What’s your favorite?”

And that is precisely the name of this year’s campaign. To demonstrate the impact of the series as a multigenerational phenomenon, the initiative features the participation of international figures from different fields. The aim is to show how Pokémon has influenced pop artists such as Lady Gaga and Jisoo from Blackpink, athletes such as Formula 1 driver Charles Leclerc and Barcelona’s promising youngster Lamine Yamal, as well as actress Maitreyi Ramakrishnan and comedian Trevor Noah.

The 30th anniversary celebrations begin

The celebrations aren’t limited to a commercial. Starting today, fans can use Pokémon GO—which celebrates its 10th anniversary this year—to create their own image with the new camera feature, choosing their favorite Pokémon and uploading the photo with the hashtag #Pokemon30.

In addition, The Pokémon Company has more events planned with the Day Out and Night Out experiences. Although no specific details have been released yet, the company has announced that Radiant Day will be an activity designed for the whole family, while Electrifying Night will be aimed at those who grew up with Pokémon.

10 years since the first Super Bowl commercial

This isn’t the first time Pokémon has surprised viewers with a Super Bowl commercial. Ten years ago, the franchise launched the “Train On” commercial, which aimed to show how the brand had become a source of inspiration by reflecting the message of overcoming adversity, perseverance, and competition that Pokémon had conveyed up to that point.
