Pokémon GO announces its most radical change in five years related to player levels
The trainer experience is renewed with a new maximum level!
Pokémon GO is about to change one of its most important aspects: how players level up. Whether you’ve been a dedicated Pokémon trainer or reached level 50 by taking advantage of an exploit in the game, Pokémon GO will change on October 15. Not only will many of the ways in which experience points are earned, and higher levels are reached change, but the level cap will also be raised from 50 to 80. This change aims to make leveling up more interesting for players and give them more rewards, while also making it easier to level up.
What changes will Pokémon GO bring in terms of levels?
According to Pokémon GO official page, players will see significant changes in how they level up. For example, all research required to level up from 41 to 50 will be removed, and new research will be added to levels 71 to 80. On the other hand, level 70 players will increase their chances of obtaining a lucky friendship with some players. Players can also expect new rewards each time they level up, and even items for their avatar starting at level 25.
Along with this comes a change in the experience curve. And although the experience requirements for each level have not been disclosed, Niantic assures us that some players will automatically level up on October 15, receiving the rewards associated with reaching that level. At the same time, no player will lose their level.
Along with this, the game seeks to commemorate the legacy of players who reached levels 40 to 50, offering rewards such as commemorative medals and a new pose for those who reached level 50. However, not everything is so great, as the rewards for levels 41 to 50 will no longer be available once the update arrives on October 15.
XP Celebration
Along with all this, Niantic also announced that from August 25, 2025, at 4:00 p.m. ET until October 14, 2025, at 11:59 p.m. (local time), there will be a celebration that will allow players to earn even more experience. This will allow us to receive:
- 2× Catch XP from Nice, Great, and Excellent Throws
- +3,000 XP from winning raids
- +3,000 XP from winning Max Battles
Along with these rewards, Trainers level 5 and above will also be able to participate in a temporary research task that will grant them over seven million XP.
