Pokémon GO celebrates 9 years with hints about new events, Paradox Pokémon and more

The Future of Pokémon GO: First Look

Update:

Pokémon GO’s ninth anniversary is underway, and to celebrate, Niantic has released a new illustration that previews what players can expect throughout the year. One of the most striking details is the imminent arrival of the Paradox Pokémon, creatures that debuted in Scarlet & Violet and could soon land in the popular mobile game.

The revealed image shows Great Tusk and Iron Treads, the prehistoric and futuristic forms of the Pokémon Donphan, originally from Gold & Silver. Paradox Pokémon are alternate versions of known creatures from past or future timelines. In the main games, they are found in the “Area Zero” crater wilderness. In Pokémon GO, they are likely to appear in raids, as was the case with the Ultra Beasts.

What other details are coming to Pokémon GO?

In addition to the Pokémon Paradox, the commemorative illustration hints at other content that could be coming soon to the game:

  • Zygarde (50% forme): Its appearance has rekindled rumors of a new event centered on Zygarde’s Routes and cells.
  • Aegislash: The Steel/Ghost-type Pokémon has been confirmed for the upcoming Steel and Scales event.
  • Mega Butterfree: This Mega Evolution has yet to officially debut in the game, but its presence in the art suggests it could do so soon.
  • Wrist Communicator: Although it is already “available” in the in-game store, its appearance in the artwork could anticipate new functions or features to be unlocked.

For now, we can only wait to find out what Niantic has in store for the rest of the year in Pokémon GO.
