Pokémon GO is releasing the biggest graphics upgrade Niantic has launched since launch

Pokémon GO is turning 8 years old soon, and Niantic is celebrating with a huge graphics overhaul for the game.

Niantic was not bluffing when it announced that 2024 was going to be a big year for Pokémon GO. Not only have they already revealed the dates, locations and more details about this years’ Pokémon GO Fest, but a graphic overhaul for the game that will establish a new visual aspect eight years after its arrival is also on its way. And we won’t have to wait long to see it in action: we already know the dates on which these upgrades will be revealed.

Reveal dates for the Pokémon GO upgrades

  • New ways to customize your avatar: April 17
  • New game look and dynamic environment images: April 22.
  • New biomes and ways to explore, starting with the Kanto event: April 22
  • New augmented reality photo system: May 7

What will improve within Pokémon GO?

Pokémon GO graphics will be completely renewed. Niantic has confirmed that the game map, encounter screens and battles will receive a visual boost. The most interesting feature is that the scenery will change depending on your location. Are you in a forest? A forest will appear. Are you in a city? You will see a city. Beaches, mountains, trails... Expect a multitude of changes depending on the location the player is in.

Avatar customization options will be expanded in ways that have not yet been detailed. On the other hand, the photo system will allow new options. For example, up to 3 Pokémon can now be placed in a snapshot at the same time. When will this all arrive in the game? Australian players will be able to start enjoying the new snapshots “in the coming weeks.” It will not be until each new element is revealed that more information will be released in this regard, although it will be sooner than it seems.

Pokémon GO is available free to play for iOS and Android.
