Pokémon GO Level Cap Update: Level 80, XP changes, new rewards explained
Niantic confirms a major progression update arriving on October 15 with new rewards, XP curve, and daily bonuses.
A little over a month ago, Niantic made a big announcement related to Pokémon GO. The experience system will undergo a change this Wednesday, October 15, increasing the level cap from 50 to 80, thereby providing a new gaming experience for players. Despite this announcement, we had to wait a few weeks to find out what we could expect, and just two days before this change reaches players, we finally have a glimpse of the changes that will come with this update.
All the changes announced for leveling up in Pokémon GO
The first and most obvious change is that trainers will level up, with level 80 now being the highest. The aim of this is to “rebalance the overall leveling system and allow trainers to earn levels and rewards more frequently.” Players will be able to obtain new rewards and, from level 25 onwards, new items for their avatar, ranging from caps, shoes, and jackets every 5 levels.
Now, how will this change affect our new level? In their official blog, Niantic explains that all the XP you’ve earned so far will be applied to the rebalanced leveling curve to determine your new Trainer level. This will clearly prevent players from losing levels, causing players at level 23 or above to rise at least one level. As previously announced, research tasks for levels 41 to 50 will be removed and will now be associated with levels 71 to 80. With these changes, the amount of XP required to level up has also changed:
- Level 10: 48,000 total XP
- Level 20: 258,000 total XP
- Level 30: 1,083,000 total XP
- Level 40: 3,953,000 total XP
- Level 50: 12,753,000 total XP
- Level 60: 34,353,000 total XP
- Level 70: 85,853,000 total XP
- Level 80: 203,353,000 total XP
Another new change is that starting at level 15, players will be able to get a free Daily Adventure Egg to hatch a Pokémon and earn 10,000 XP! These will take 1 km to hatch, so if you’re someone who goes for a walk every day, you’ll be getting an XP boost every day.
