Pokémon Legends: Z-A becomes the fifth-best Pokémon release one week after its launch
Half of its sales come from Nintendo Switch 2, making it one of the franchise’s strongest debuts to date.
After its first week in stores and a slew of memes on the internet, The Pokémon Company has revealed sales figures for Pokémon Legends: Z-A, the latest title in the franchise for Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2.
According to official information, the title has sold nearly 5.8 million units, including both physical and digital versions. About half of these copies were played on the Nintendo Switch 2. The figure makes Pokémon Legends: Z-A the fifth-best launch in the franchise in its first week. However, as video game sales specialist Pierre485 comments on his X account (formerly Twitter), although Z-A outperforms other titles such as Pokémon X & Y and Pokémon: Let’s Go Pikachu & Let’s Go Eevee, it falls short of Pokémon Scarlet & Violet, Pokémon Legends: Arceus, Pokémon Sword and Shield, and Pokémon Brilliant Pearl & Shining Diamond.
These are certainly not bad figures, but they fall short of the impressive record set by Pokémon Scarlet & Violet, which sold 10 million copies in three days, making it the fastest-selling single-format game of all time. For now, there is still much to look forward to with this game, as it also has a DLC already announced.
An new adventure in Lumiose City
Pokémon Legends: Z-A is the second title in the “Legends” series, which began in 2022 with Pokémon Legends: Arceus. While in that first installment we traveled back in time to the ancient region of Hisui at a point where humans and the yet to be Pocket Monsters did not yet have that bond, Pokémon Legends: Z-A brings us to the present day, touring the great Lumiose City, the center of Kalos, a region we first encountered in 2012 in Pokémon X & Y. Along with this adventure, the Mega Evolution mechanic is back (as we have seen in other of the franchise products such as Pokémon Trading Card Game, Pokémon TCG Pocket, and the upcoming Pokémon Champions).
