Pokémon Legends: Z-A release date confirms Switch 2’s fast-paced launch on the market

Pokémon marks October as a major milestone for its upcoming spin-off.

Update:

The Pokémon Company has kept fans guessing about Pokémon Legends: Z-A. Many expected the release date to be revealed during Pokémon Day, but instead, it was casually announced today, accompanied by confirmation of a new Pokémon Presents this summer.

Legends: Z-A arrives on October 16, 2025, for Nintendo Switch and Switch 2, with pre-orders opening June 5 in both digital and physical formats. Players who purchase the Switch version can upgrade to Switch 2 via a paid upgrade pack.

The game’s official cover art showcases Chikorita, Totodile, and Tepig, standing with their trainers before entering battle. The night-time setting isn’t just for aesthetic: it’s a clear reference to the Z-A tournament, a nightly competition in Lumiose City where trainers fight for the top spot.

Switch 2’s launch lineup builds momentum

While Pokémon Legends: Z-A was originally announced for Nintendo Switch, its dedicated Switch 2 edition adds to the console’s growing library.

Other upcoming titles, like Metroid Prime 4: Beyond, are in similar positions—initially announced for Switch, yet primed to take advantage of Switch 2 hardware. With a steady stream of high-profile releases, Nintendo’s next-gen console is shaping up to dominate the market in its first months.
