New details and leaks from Pokémon Pokopia indicate that the game may not be as “childish” as it seems at first glance. What happened in Kanto?

Update:

Since its presentation, Pokémon Pokopia has raised suspicions among fans of the series, and we’re not referring specifically to the controversy surrounding the game-key card format. A social simulator in which we control Ditto posing as a human, surrounded by ruined buildings and no people in sight, set off alarm bells, and a new fan theory points to players’ worst fears: the game would be set in Kanto... after a post-apocalyptic cataclysm.

Alarm bells are ringing with the new Pokémon Pokopia theory, and the supposed reason why there are no humans is terrifying

On December 2, the X CentroLeaks account, which specializes in compiling all kinds of data and leaks about Pokémon, echoed a theory that would reveal that, behind its childlike and familiar appearance, Pokémon Pokopia is actually a very dark game. Descriptions of the different areas to visit suggest that the game is set in a Kanto devastated by a cataclysm of gigantic proportions, which would explain not only why there are no humans, but also the very objective of the game: to create new settlements where Pokémon can live in peace and harmony.

According to Centro Leaks, the descriptions of both the base game areas and the planned DLCs leave no room for doubt:

  • Area 1 - Fuscha Area - Dried up and unfertilized fieldland
  • Area 2 - Vermillion Area - Constant raining electrical harbor
  • Area 3 - Pewter Area - An abandoned mine covered by rocks
  • Area 4 - Saffron Area - Bunch of buildings covered with plants.
  • Area 5 - Viridian Area - Never ending buring forest of ash
  • Special Area - Palette Area (no description)
  • UPD1 - Cerulean Area - A flooded city that has hidden treasure
  • UPD2 - Cinnibar Area - Forever sealed dead volcano Island
  • UPD3 - Lavender Area - Rotten tower that reaches heaven
  • UPD4 - Celedon Area - Giant crater that reaches unseeable depth
  • UPD5 - Indigo Area (No description)

The names of the areas in Pokémon Pokopia are the names of the most iconic locations in Kanto, such as Fuchsia City, Vermilion City, Viridian City, and Pallet Town. The descriptions of the Pokopia areas reflect characteristic elements of their equivalents in the First Generation games, suggesting that something truly terrible happens in the future of Kanto, devastating the entire region, causing humans to perish and only Pokémon to survive.

Reinforcing this theory are the new and unprecedented Pokémon forms that have already been confirmed, such as Peakychu—a glowing Pikachu that has lost all its color—Mosslax—a Snorlax covered in moss—and Smearguru—a Smeargle with colorful splashes all over its body.

A practically unprecedented twist within the franchise, but... is it real?

For now, The Pokémon Company has neither confirmed nor denied any of this, and everything remains in the realm of fan speculation. However, this accumulation of hints seems anything but coincidental; these references and names copied from Kanto have sparked the community’s imagination like rarely before in the saga. As always, it is best to take this information with a grain of salt until it is officially confirmed or denied.
