Pokémon Pokopia reveals Bubbly Basin Expansion and major free update

Koei Tecmo and Game Freak have outlined the next major update for Pokémon Pokopia, introducing new gameplay features alongside the first installment of the game’s Expansion Pass. The first update will be available on August 5 and combines free content with a paid expansion, with part 1 revealed as Bubbly Basin.

Underwater activities come to Pokopia

The headline addition for all players is the Dive move, which allows Ditto to explore the ocean floor after learning the ability from the Mythical Pokémon Manaphy. Unlike previous underwater sections, diving will no longer be restricted by time limits, opening the seabed as a new area for exploration and construction. The free update expands the game’s building system by allowing players to create neighborhoods beneath the ocean’s surface. Construction functions similarly to building on land, but introduces new environmental elements and mechanics designed specifically for underwater areas.

Among the new tools are buoyant blocks that float at different heights, making it possible to create multi-level structures and suspended rooms that aren’t possible in surface environments. The underwater biome will also feature aquatic Pokémon that inhabit the newly accessible areas.

First Expansion Pass Content Launches August 5

Launching alongside the free update is Part 1: Bubbly Basin, the first chapter of Pokémon Pokopia’s paid Expansion Pass. Bubbly Basin introduces a new underwater neighborhood with its own story campaign, additional activities, and exclusive items. Players will be able to grow new crops—including watermelons—with assistance from Water-type Pokémon, expand their settlements using bubble- and light-based infrastructure, and explore deep-sea environments illuminated by bioluminescent coral. The pass is priced at $34.99 and includes all three planned expansion packs.

Koei Tecmo and Game Freak confirmed that the Expansion Pass will continue through 2026 and 2027. The second installment, scheduled for later this year, will focus on new accessories for both players and Pokémon, while the third expansion will introduce an additional neighborhood in 2027.
