Post Malone now owns The One Ring, Magic the Gathering’s most expensive card yet

Famous musician and Magic player Post Malone has bought the unique The One Ring card from its finder for over 2 million dollars.

Update:

A little less than a month ago we said that someone would end up becoming the real Gollum, and that day has come. In addition, he has his own name and is well known: Austin Richard Post, better known as Post Malone. The popular rapper has paid more than 2 million dollars for the most valuable card in the history of Magic: The Gathering, The One Ring, belonging to the latest expansion of the card game, Tales from Middle-earth, based around The Lord of the Rings.

The total amount that Post Malone paid for The One Ring is unknown, but we are estimating about a minimum of 2 million dollars because that was the amount in which the PSA, the body in charge of certifying the authenticity of trading cards and collectibles, valued this unique card.

When I found the One Ring, the first person who came to mind was @Post Malone. I have played MTG since I was a kid and obviously it would be amazing to keep this card. But for a guy like me, being able to sell it is life changing. I just really hoped it would go to someone who would appreciate it as much as I do. This is my dream come true, meeting Post Malone and him buying the One Ring card from me is literally a moment straight out of a fairytale. Post Malone @Magic: The Gathering you have changed my life. Things like this don’t happen to people like me, I guess it’s magic. I am forever grateful 🙏 ✨  #postmalone #onering #oneofone #mtg #magic #mint #psa #card #magicthegathering #lordoftherings #trading #tradingcards #theonering #sauron #collector #edition #one #gandalf #tradingcardgame

“When I found the One Ring, the first person that came to mind was Post Malone,” says Brook Trafton, the card’s previous owner and who has undoubtedly hit the jackpot in life. “I have played MTG since I was a kid and obviously it would be amazing to keep this card. But for a guy like me, being able to sell it is life changing. I just really hoped it would go to someone who would appreciate it as much as I do. This is my dream come true, meeting Post Malone and him buying the One Ring card from me is literally a moment straight out of a fairytale.” This is also how we learned of Trafton, the card’s original owner who managed to find it inside of one of the expansion’s collector’s booster packs. The PSA gave it a “Mint 9″ rating.

For his part, Post Malone is a recognized fan of trading card games, having been “caught” playing Marvel Snap while getting tattooed in an Instagram post, but his passion for Magic: The Gathering goes back a long way, having featured in multiple face-to-face tournaments and being the owner of a version signed by the artist responsible for the Black Lotus valued at $800,000, which was the most valuable card in the game until the appearance of the One Ring. Better a known nerdy player than a collector looking for a big sale.
