Prime Video’s first trailer for Like a Dragon: Yakuza gives us a first look at the series

The adaptation of SEGA’s game will be released in October, and while the trailer is short, it gives us a glimpse of Kiryu and company in the underworld of Japan.

The growth of the Like a Dragon series (formerly known as Yakuza outside of Japan) is undeniable. The success of the last two titles in the series has opened the door for fans to delve into past titles and meet Kazuma Kiryu, the legendary “Dragon of Dojima.” It was a surprise to learn that Prime Video was planning a series, but it was an even bigger surprise to get a first look at the live-action series that will bring this universe to television.

Trailer and New Details for Prime Video’s Like a Dragon: Yakuza

During Prime Video’s panel at the San Diego Comic-Con we saw the first trailer for Like a Dragon: Yakuza and with it new details about the series were revealed. First, that the series will consist of six episodes, divided into blocks of three. The first will be released on October 24th, while the second half will be released on November 1st. With this, details about other actors were also revealed. While we already knew that Ryona Takeuchi will play Kiryu, we now know that Kento Kaku will play Nishiki, an organized crime boss and childhood friend of Kiryu. We also know that Masaharu Take will be the director of the series, with a script by Yoshida Yasuhiro and Yamada Kana.

What is the Like a Dragon: Yakuza series about?

The story will be set in two time periods, 1995 and 2005, which will allow us to see Kazuma’s childhood, the friends he made then, and the repercussions of the decisions he took, which turned him into “a fearsome and peerless Yakuza warrior with a strong sense of justice, duty, and humanity.” The first three episodes will be released on October 25, with the following three on November 1st, although we do not know if the break is related to its time skip.
