Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Remake resurfaces after several years of disappearance

Most people think of time as a river that flows swiftly and surely in one direction... if you wait long enough, you can catch a glimpse of Prince of Persia.

Update:
Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Remake resurfaces after several years of disappearance

The rumors turned out to be false, the remake of Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time is on its way from Ubisoft Montreal, and one of the classics of gaming history from the GameCube, PlayStation 2, and Xbox OG era seems more alive than ever.

During Ubisoft Forward 2024, we got to see a brief look at The Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Remake. The Prince we met in 2003 is back, but sure, we will have to wait a little bit longer... till 2026.

Prince of Persia Sands of Time Remake, a troubled development

Announced in 2020 and with a release window in 2021, this remake, originally developed by Ubisoft Pune and Ubisoft Mumbai, began to falter and completely disappear from the face of the earth. With no news on its next release, it was revealed in 2022 that these studios would completely leave its development and everything would be handed over to Ubisoft Montreal, building on what these studios had already worked on. Rumors earlier this year indicated that everything in this remake would have a clean slate to start from scratch, joining it with games that were previously announced, as was the case with Beyond Good and Evil 2, which we have not seen since 2018.

Prince of Persia returns with a bang

The Prince of Persia franchise has surprised us in recent months with two releases that have brought the name of one of Ubisoft’s most important franchises back to prominence. With the arrival of The Lost Crown and The Rogue Prince of Persia, we have seen a resurgence of the name that we have not seen in a long time. A beloved franchise that was very well represented in its 2D format and now awaits its triumphant return in 3D.
