Professor Layton & The New World of Steam makes a new appearance, with new details on its release
Steam Bison is bringing us the largest number of puzzles in any game in the franchise.
It’s been almost three years since Level-5 unveiled the next installment of Professor Layton, and although details about the game have been few and far between, we finally have some new information today, thanks to an event held by the Japanese studio to showcase its upcoming releases.
A new trailer unveiled during Level-5 Vision 2026—which you can watch above—has revealed that ‘Professor Layton and the New World of Steam’ will no longer be exclusive to the Nintendo Switch and Switch 2; instead, the series’ signature puzzles will be coming to PlayStation 5 and PC. Similarly, although there is no set release date, the title is coming in 2026 with a simultaneous global launch.
The Professor’s New Adventure
The game takes place one year after ‘Professor Layton and the Unwound Future’, where this time Luke and Professor Layton reunite in Steam Bison, a steam-powered city in the United States, where the mystery revolves around “a phantom gunman shrouded in mystery” and “a kidnapped heiress.” The trailer gives us a quick glimpse of elements of the story, as well as the puzzles we’ll encounter, making this the largest collection the franchise has seen to date.
We can’t wait any longer for this game to come out, as fans have been eagerly anticipating a new installment for quite some time—the last one was released in 2017 (‘Layton’s Mystery Journey: Katrielle and the Millionaires’ Conspiracy’).
