PS5 Pro leaks suggest the kind of upgrades games could get on the rumored console

While there is no confirmation of its existence yet, certain incredible features of the PS5 Pro have revealed what upgraded titles could play like.

Cross-generation consoles are here to stay. According to Tom Henderson of Insider Gaming, PlayStation is set to release a PS5 Pro, a project known in code as Trinity, of which Sony has not made any official mention. In addition to the technical specifications, the journalist has also revealed the existence of a special label for games, similar to the one carried by PS4 games improved on PS4 Pro. According to this information, developers will have to meet a series of requirements to get it.

PlayStation wants developers to implement an exclusive mode focused on graphics, which will orbit around three features: the first is to use the new PSSR technology so that the titles reach 4K resolution. This new technique is a solution similar to that of NVIDIA DLSS, which uses artificial intelligence to improve resolution by rescaling the image. The second requirement is that the games run at a constant 60 FPS, a goal dreamed of for generations that has not yet come to fruition on consoles. Finally, Sony is asking studios to implement or improve ray tracing effects.

Other improvements that can be worthy of the “PS5 Pro Enhaned” label are improving resolution in games with fixed or variable resolution on PS5, or that the titles in question run at a higher framerate than on the standard console. They will also positively value the inclusion of the console’s ray-tracing effects. According to the documents sent to Insider Gaming, all these improvements will be possible thanks to faster RAM (28% larger capacity) and the renewed GPU.

Leaks, a new constant in the video game industry

Surprises are a thing of the past, as almost no one is immune from leaks. Gone are the times when people had to buy a physical magazine to get information. Now, game development is so expensive and huge that hundreds upon hundreds of people work in each studio, including people from other departments, freelancers, etc. Given these circumstances, it is relatively easy for someone to get away with releasing information before it’s supposed to be public. It has happened to PlayStation, but also to Xbox, since their plans to go multiplatform leaked before Phil Spencer, head of the division, could explain himself.

Back to a not-so-recent past, rumors about the PS4 Pro also showed up before its official announcement. Back then th eproject was known as PlayStation Neo. For now, we will have to wait, since not even the release date seems solid. There are mentions of release at the end of 2024, but plans may change once again.
