PS5 Pro moves forward and Sony has already warned studios to get their games supported

The prediction is that the upgraded version of the console will be available in stores by the end of 2024, according to sources.

PlayStation hasn’t said anything about an alleged PS5 Pro, but the information has surfaced ahead of the official announcement, as it regularly does. Insider Gaming had access to an internal document, the existence of which was confirmed by The Verge. In addition to the technical specifications, the media outlet has also reported on Sony’s latest moves. Sources close to the company have revealed that the Japanese company has asked its studios to start working on making their games compatible with future hardware, with a special focus on ray tracing technology.

The Verge notes that developers can already apply for their kits, as Sony expects all titles to complete the certification process during the coming month of August. This process will take place in the summer because PlayStation is aiming to launch the PS5 Pro by the end of this year 2024, a date that Insider Gaming also noted while acknowledging that it was possible it could be delayed to ensure a more robust launch lineup.

Generational models are here to stay

The console lifecycle has changed. In the past, hardware manufacturers would release new models, but these were usually smaller versions with minor hardware tweaks, not more powerful versions of the same device. This trend changed in the last generation when Microsoft and Sony launched their PS4 Pro and Xbox One X consoles. The golden rule was that all titles would work on both devices, as has been the case with both models of the Xbox series in this generation of consoles. On the other hand, with the New Nintendo 3DS, the Japanese dared to create exclusive products that did not work on the regular 3DS, a strategy that has not been repeated with the Nintendo Switch.

Like PS4 Pro, the revamped version of PS5 - codenamed Trinity - will introduce a number of enhancements to games, allowing those that meet the requirements to receive the “PS5 Pro Enhanced” label. The aim is for developers to introduce an exclusive graphics mode that takes advantage of some of the technical capabilities of the PS5 Pro, such as PSSR, a proprietary technology that will be used to rescale the resolution of games and apply a series of texture smoothing improvements. Another aspect that will be appreciated is that the titles will run at 60 FPS and that they will implement ray tracing.

“Trinity has a mode that targets 3.85GHz CPU frequency,” Sony says in a document sent to developers, which is 10% more than the standard console, which runs at a maximum of 3.5Ghz. These are the leaked specifications.
