PS6 and the new Xbox are set to arrive much later than expected, and the price of RAM is to blame

The situation is so worrying that some are even considering the possibility of current consoles rising in price again.

Update:

Advances in artificial intelligence have led to a very high demand for RAM, which has created a critical situation for this hardware, as shortages have led to exorbitant price increases. And this, unsurprisingly, will end up having very negative effects on the video game industry, especially in terms of the manufacture of both current and new consoles. So much so that Tom Henderson of Insider Gaming has put forward two possible scenarios: the possible delay of the next generation and the possibility that current platforms will rise in price again.

On paper, Sony and Microsoft plan to launch PS6 and the next Xbox between 2027 and 2028, but after closely monitoring the RAM crisis, both companies could delay this launch date. The current machines are five years old, so if the estimated launch window is not met, we would be talking about a longer generation than usual.

On the other hand, another plausible scenario is that current consoles (PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch 2) will increase in price again, as the RAM shortage not only affects the production of next-generation consoles but also the manufacture of current ones.
