Random bosses, surprise items and pure madness: here comes the wildest mod for Elden Ring: Nightreign
FromSoftware’s roguelike already had procedural elements, but this PC mod dials up the unpredictability with custom maps, boss swaps, and derandomized runs.
If Elden Ring: Nightreign wasn’t unpredictable enough for you, modder thefifthmatt has released a new PC mod that turns the game’s expedition system into a sandbox of chaos. Available now on Nexus Mods, the Nightreign Randomizer and Derandomizer lets players shuffle map layouts, boss encounters, item rewards, and more, creating runs that feel fresh, brutal, and completely unhinged.
What the mod does
The mod replaces vanilla map patterns with randomized ones based on a seed system. Players can choose from three presets:
- Base-like: Mimics the original game’s structure but swaps Night Bosses freely
- Balanced random: Adds item reward variation, circle timing tweaks, and guaranteed boss weaknesses
- Extra random: Removes placement restrictions, allowing wild spawn points and unpredictable objectives
You can also mix and match settings, increase the chance of double Night Bosses, or even hide map icons for a true survival challenge.
What’s a derandomizer?
For players who want control instead of chaos, the mod includes a derandomizer that lets you set your expedition seed manually. This enables deterministic runs, perfect for speedrunners, challenge streamers, or anyone tired of rolling the dice.
Compatibility and installation
- Works with the Seamless Co-op mod, allowing two-player runs
- Requires Mod Engine 3 and a legitimate copy of Nightreign
- Includes safety features to avoid softlocks and corrupted saves
Installation is straightforward, but users should avoid using their main save file and always back up progress before launching a randomized run.
While Nightreign already features procedural generation, its limited pool of map patterns and boss rotations can feel repetitive over time. This mod breaks those boundaries, offering a roguelike experience that’s truly dynamic, and sometimes downright absurd.
Whether you’re chasing chaos or crafting the perfect run, the Nightreign Randomizer is already being hailed as one of the most essential mods for the game.
