Remedy has acquired the full rights to the Control franchise from 505 Games

Remedy Entertainment announced today that they’ve managed to acquire the full rights of the Control franchise from publisher 505 Games. Having released back in 2019, it took roughly five years for the developers to obtain full control of the sci-fi series that boldly interconnected almost every other property the studio has ever worked on, including the recent Alan Wake 2.

The acquisition was made for roughly $18.4 million dollars, and includes the full rights to the Control franchise. This includes not only the original game but also its upcoming sequel that is already in development, a multiplayer spin-off known only as “codename Condor”, and anything else that might be related to the series in the future.

“The Control franchise is in the core of Remedy,” said the studio in an official statement. “Having acquired the full rights to Control, Condor and Control 2, Remedy is now in a position to make the right product and business decisions focusing on long-term franchise growth”

But while all of the decisions regarding the franchise are now completely in the hands of Remedy, 505 Games will continue to act as its publisher by mutual agreement. This is something that reveals that the change of hands for the rights come from a good place and not a falling out between the companies. The 17 million Euros paid to 505 Games is simply the amount of money that the publisher had invested in the development of the previously mentioned future projects.

As it stands, Remedy Entertainment will now be able to do as they please with their franchise. We already know that they’re working on more titles in the series, but as it’s also deeply connected to the Alan Wake franchise after the release of Alan Wake 2, it’s an exciting moment for fans of the studio.
