‘Resident Evil 7′ for iOS has low sales and only 83,000 downloads

The port of one of Capcom’s most successful titles in recent years fails to meet sales expectations with a low number of users.

Since its release in 2017, ‘Resident Evil 7′ became the triumphant return of Capcom’s horror franchise. The success translated into nearly 13.30 million units sold, as well as reaching the current generation of consoles. However, unlike other titles in the franchise that found success on other platforms, the recently released iOS version has failed to meet sales expectations.

According to an estimate by AppMagic (via mobilegamer.biz), the iOS version of Resident Evil 7 has been purchased by nearly 2,000 users. The calculation comes from marketplace estimates, where this port has been downloaded nearly 83,000 times since its release on July 2. This has generated an estimated $28,140 for Capcom, which by Mobilegamer calculations, is to be around 2,000 users, considering Apple’s 30% platform cut and the $20 cost to unlock the full game.

A select version for a select few

One of the biggest factors influencing the low sales of this ‘Resident Evil 7′ port for iOS is the limited number of devices on which it can be played. Like other titles trying to make the jump from consoles to mobile, this one is only playable on Apple’s highest end devices, the iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max, as well as newer models of iPads with the M1 chip and above.

Another factor that may work against the game is its size. The game has a file size of 25GB and “requires that you have at least twice the size of the application in free space,” according to the product page. It also recommends “using a controller for a better experience.”

In September 2023, Apple announced that its newest iPhone models would run games currently on consoles, with Assassin’s Creed Mirage and Death Stranding announced.
