Review PDP Rematch Advanced Wired Controller

Lightweight and with a lot of features, a controller that Xbox and PC users should not ignore.

In the world of gaming, a good controller can make all the difference. One that is in optimal condition, that responds well, and that has no problems with its buttons and levers can make the difference in beating a level or in a multiplayer confrontation. On this occasion, we review PDP’s Rematch controller, a product aimed at Xbox gamers who want to update their equipment, but are also looking for some extras.

Design

This controller comes with the same design that we’ve seen on both the Xbox One and the new Xbox X Series X|S, so you can expect all the buttons, sticks, and pads to be where they need to be, plus a few additions. One of the first details to mention is that this is a wired controller that connects via a USB-C cable. While this may not be the current standard in a wireless world, it does bring some notable improvements, such as reduced weight compared to Microsoft’s controllers. In terms of usage, it is supported on Windows 10 and 11 PCs, the Xbox X series X|S, and the Xbox One family, making it quite dynamic between systems.

In terms of feel, you can tell that this is a plastic that is much lighter than what one is used to, but that is also an important part of its weight. After these weeks of arduous testing, I have to mention that aspects such as vibration remain on par with the Xbox One controller I use, and that its connection to the PC was something that did not require any installation or waiting for a driver update. The feel of the buttons and joysticks is pretty good. Visually, the design might not be to everyone’s taste, but that’s something that takes a back seat if you’re really looking for a controller to play with, and the Rematch model comes with different models to choose from.

Functions

As I mentioned before, this controller has a few extras that make it stand out. The first thing that stands out when you touch the controller are the two buttons on the back. By default, these cover the A and B buttons, but if you wish, they can be programmed to duplicate any other button on the controller. On the other hand, we have one control for all audio needs. If you plug your headset into the controller, you can use the lower middle button to mute your microphone, as well as a combination with the pad to raise or lower the volume, and increase the volume of either the game or your group of friends if you are at a party.

Customization Options

Something that is noteworthy and easy to overlook with this controller is that you can customize certain settings more easily thanks to the PDP Control Hub application. In this application, you can go from performing calibration and diagnostics to configuring and reassigning buttons more easily, or even changing the vibration level or volume setting of the unit. It also serves as a hub for updating the firmware, something you would not be able to do if you did not have it installed.

Conclusion

Without having to reinvent the controller, PDP's Rematch Advanced Wired Controller is a good choice for those looking for a new controller for their Xbox console, or for PC gamers who want to get into gaming but are not quite used to the keyboard and mouse. Although the feel of the materials isn't as strong, they have great durability and a lighter weight that allows you to not get tired after long hours of gaming.
