The 007 universe on the big screen is experiencing some turbulent times. We recently learned that Denis Villeneuve, the director of the next installment in the saga, will have a big name in the industry as his screenwriter: Steven Knight. For those who don’t know him, he is the creator of Peaky Blinders. His arrival is not starting from scratch. The creative has a very clear vision for the next James Bond.

In conversation with BBC Radio 5 (reported by Variety), Knight said it was “fantastic” to have been invited to be part of the project, which has not yet officially begun until Villeneuve finishes his eagerly awaited ‘Dune Part 3’. However, this has not stopped him from imagining the characteristics that the next James Bond should have.

“I’m hoping that being a Bond fan for so many years, that will sort of be imbued into me and I’ll be able to produce something that’s the same but different and better and stronger and bolder,” he says.

When asked if he knows who the actor chosen to play him is (there are already three favorites), his lips are sealed. “I can’t give you the answer to,” he explains to the interviewer. It is the best-kept secret by Amazon MGM, the current creative leaders of the saga following the departure of the legendary Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson.

Its release is a long way off. Some media outlets suggest that internally they are considering a release in 2028, which means we are three long years away from seeing it in theaters, if everything continues to progress slowly but surely.
