Team Ninja

Rise of the Ronin mixes Assassin’s Creed, Ghost of Tsushima, and Dark Souls

The new video game developed by Team Ninja, the creators of Nioh and Ninja Gaiden, will feature Ubisoft-style missions.

One of the surprises at the September 2022 State of Play was the presence of Team Ninja with one of the most anticipated PlayStation 5 exclusives. Rise of the Ronin will take players to 19th century Japan, a time when samurai still wielded their katanas, but not for long. The Snitch, one of the industry’s regular leakers, has revealed some interesting details about Tecmo Koei’s upcoming title. According to him, the title will be a mixture of Assassin’s Creed, Ghost of Tsushima and Dark Souls.

The leaker has said that the descriptions of the objects add to the lore, and gives a specific example: “It was produced in the craftsmanship style associated with a renowned blacksmith named Okisato Nagasone, who lived in Musashi during the 17th century and was also known as Kotetsu (...).”

Missions, graphics, difficulty modes, and more

Meanwhile, the design of the missions will be similar to Ubisoft games, which usually appear marked on the map and typically lead us to interact with different characters, fight and solve the various situations that arise. Without going into details, The Snitch has also pointed out that there will be different difficulty modes, skill and technique trees and graphical modes of performance and quality.

Team Ninja is also planning on adding romance options, although there are no details on how they will work. As for the release date, the idea is that it will be available in the first quarter of 2024.

Rise of the Ronin tells the story of a dark era. After 300 years of rule by the Tokugawa clan, the end of the Edo period is near. Set in 1863, the game follows the events leading up to the fall of the Shogunate a few years later. As this inexorable process approaches, the guns clang and the feudal system cracks.
