Robert Downey Jr.’s enigmatic message that could change Marvel’s future forever: Doctor Doom or Iron Man?
Robert Downey Jr. causes a small earthquake of fan theories with an Instagram post to celebrate Thanksgiving. Innocent post, or hidden clues about Marvel’s future?

In the summer of 2024, Robert Downey Jr. caused a huge media stir when it was announced that he would be returning to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, not as Iron Man, but as the evil Doctor Doom. Today, the popular actor posted a mysterious message on his Instagram account, where the past and future clash head-on. Countless Marvel fans are constantly analyzing its possible meaning, and a widespread theory is that the actor would also return as Iron Man... or one of his variants in ‘Avengers: Doomsday.’
The image that reignites theories about Robert Downey Jr.‘s dual role in ‘Avengers: Doomsday’
On November 27, Robert Downey Jr. posted a very enigmatic message on his Instagram account. With no accompanying text, the photograph shows Doctor Doom and Iron Man, each holding one end of a wishbone, a Thanksgiving tradition in which two people hold one of these turkey bones and, after breaking it, whoever gets the longer end will have their wishes come true.
For many fans, this snapshot is much more than a mere tribute to this holiday so deeply rooted in American culture, and could have many alternative readings and interpretations. Some interpret it as the actor not wanting to leave Iron Man behind, putting him on an “equal footing” with Doctor Doom. The fact that a character who has already died in the MCU can see his “wishes fulfilled” could imply that Tony Stark is not as dead as we think, or that we will see him in Avengers: Doomsday through some trick such as time travel or one of his multiverse variants.
The fact that Doom looks exactly like Tony Stark is one of the most talked-about elements among fans, especially with regard to how this “extremely unusual coincidence” could be “squared” within future storylines. Another possible interpretation of this image is that Doctor Doom is directly a variant of Tony Stark from another timeline. Be that as it may, it seems clear that these hints Robert Downey Jr. is dropping about Doom’s true identity or purpose are far from mere “innocent posts.”
