Robert Downey Jr.’s post that has set off alarm bells with Iron Man and Doctor Doom: “Silver & Gold”
The actor who plays Tony Stark and Victor von Doom is stirring up Marvel fandom with a new and cryptic Instagram post.

Marvel and Robert Downey Jr. continue to raise expectations for ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ sky high. Following their spectacular first teaser showing Chris Evans’ return as Steve Rogers (Captain America), the actor who played Tony Stark and soon Doctor Doom continues to play games with the true nature of his new role as a villain. The actor continues to deliberately play with ambiguity, and one of his latest social media posts has fans continuing to come up with all kinds of theories.
Robert Downey Jr. continues to drive Marvel fans crazy with the possible connection between Doom and Iron Man in ‘Avengers: Doomsday’.
On December 25, Robert Downey Jr. posted a very peculiar Marvel illustration on his Instagram account. As a unique Christmas celebration, he showed an image of Doctor Doom and Iron Man from the comics as if they were Christmas tree baubles, along with the brief text “Silver & Gold,” alluding to two of the key colors in their respective armor.
This isn’t the first time that the actor who played Tony Stark for more than a decade in the Marvel Cinematic Universe has drawn parallels between hero and villain, hinting at a possible connection in the highly anticipated Avengers: Doomsday. Without going any further, last Thanksgiving Day, he also posted an image where Doom and Stark were fighting over the turkey’s “wish bone,” again hinting that these beloved characters are two sides of the same coin.
Over the decades, Doctor Doom and Tony Stark have had numerous encounters in Marvel comics, both as enemies and as unexpected allies. In one story, they even swapped bodies, making it one of the “top bets” for the upcoming movie among fans. Their status as two of the greatest scientific geniuses on the planet has caused them to clash on numerous occasions, and it is precisely this love-hate relationship that Downey Jr. could be hinting at.

In short, although there is still no official confirmation about the true connection between the two in the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday, everything points to us having to wait until its release on December 18, 2026, to see what surprises Phase Six of the Marvel Cinematic Universe has in store.
