Robert Kirkman: “We want every [Invincible season three] episode to feel like it’s a finale”

Robert Kirkman is setting expectations high for the upcoming season of ‘Invincible’, going so far as to claim that every episode will feel like a season finale.

Robert Kirkman, creator of the comic book ‘Invincible’ and also one of the main responsible for the adaptation into an animated series on Amazon’s Prime Video, sets our teeth on edge with some statements about the third season. And according to this artist, “We want every [season three] episode to feel like it’s a finale,” which is a conscientious way to sum up the high stakes and the fragile balance of the universe in which the series is set.

Robert Kirkman sets expectations high for ‘Invincible’ Season 3

The final episode of the second season of ‘Invincible’ aired last Thursday, April 4, 2024, and was packed with cameos and references to other franchises like ‘Spider-Man’ or ‘Fortnite’. It also put Mark Grayson in a very compromising position, traumatized after being forced to kill Angstrom Levy after threatening and hurting his mother and brother. All while Allen conspires with a repentant Nolan/Omni-Man to help him escape from Viltrumite prison and recruit him to fight against his former people on behalf of the Coalition of Planets.

In a segment of ‘Inside Episode 8′ of ‘Invincible,’ Robert Kirkman went so far as to say the following: We want every [season three] episode to feel like it’s a finale. Season three is an absolutely huge season with so many crazy things that you won’t expect. And where we leave things at the end of season three… Oh my god, I cannot wait for people to see that stuff.”

Simon Racioppa, co-showrunner, also stated, “We have new characters, new stories. We’re going to some pretty crazy places. But we’re not leaving any loose ends from the end of season two. All the exciting stories from the first two seasons will continue in season three.”

In other words, both Kirkman and Rancioppa have set the bar very high for the next season of ‘Invincible’, where the plot will continue to show us both new problems on planet Earth that the Guardians will have to face, and the progress of the war between the Coalition of Planets and the Viltrumite Empire. The drama is served and any main character can die in this intergalactic conflict.

When will the third season of Invincible be available?

Although there is still no confirmed premiere date, the existence of the third season has been known since 2021, since Amazon Studios renewed the series for two more seasons after the premiere of the first. On the other hand, we have the peculiar scene of episode 7 of season 2, where it is stated that “animation is a laborious process that takes a year”, so we would not see these new chapters until 2025.

‘Invincible’ is an animated series adaptation of Robert Kirkman’s comic book series of the same name, published between 2003 and 2018. Its story tells us the adventures and misadventures of Mark Grayson, son of Nolan Grayson aka Omni-Man, one of the most powerful superheroes on the planet, but with a hidden agenda: he is an alien from the planet Viltrum, sent to Earth to conquer it. This revelation causes terrible rifts not only in the Grayson family but also in the superhero community.

‘Invincible’ is one of Prime Video’s highest-rated original series; at the time of this writing, Season 1 has a 98% fresh critics rating and Season 2 has a 100% fresh critics rating on Rotten Tomatoes, and Season 1 has a 73 fresh critics rating and Season 2 has an 82 fresh critics rating on Metacritic.
