Roblox is coming to Meta Quest with a new update, open beta coming soon
Roblox is coming to virtual reality through Meta Quest headsets, and they’ve now unveiled all the details about the update and its upcoming open beta.
It’s been a long wait for fans, full of rumors and false starts, but now it’s official: Roblox is coming to Meta Quest 2 and the Quest Pro, making the jump to virtual reality. The developers unveiled this alongside the news that an open beta will be available in the “coming weeks”, to give players a chance to get ready.
With Roblox being probably one of the most successful titles out there in the video game market, with over 66 million active players around the world and tools for creators to work with the engine and share their own games and experiences, one would expect Virtual Reality to expand that in a big way. And that is exactly what Meta is hoping will happen.
“Roblox will offer a vast library of content for the Quest community to explore. In fact, Roblox is automatically publishing some experiences that use default player scripts to support VR devices,” they said. “They’ve found that those experiences typically run well in VR without modifications, so they’re seeding the Roblox VR library with great content from day one.”
As if that wasn’t enough, this new update will allow for players on all platforms to play together regardless of the platform they’re playing on: “Because Roblox is cross-platform, you’ll be able to connect, play, and hang out with friends across Xbox, iOS, Android, and desktop —helping to make VR more social than ever before,” confirmed Meta.
Roblox Open Beta is coming soon
The developers behind Roblox also revealed that an Open Beta of this new “version” of the game will be arriving to Meta Quest’s App Lab in the coming weeks. While no specific date has been shared, the devs want to use the opportunity to gather feedback from VR users who join other player’s experiences.
“The Open Beta on App Lab is a vital time for our developers to experiment, learn, and iterate on their VR experiences before Roblox is ready for full release on the Meta Quest Store,” they said. “Please note, the Open Beta will only support Meta Quest 2 and Meta Quest Pro devices.” While this is true for the Open Beta, Meta has also announced that they’re already working on making the title compatible with the upcoming Meta Quest 3.
