Rock Band 4 to be removed from Xbox and PlayStation digital stores this weekend

Fans can still play and redownload owned content, but unpurchased DLC songs will vanish as licenses run out.

Update:

After being the center of parties and gatherings, introducing your friends and family who had never played a video game before, the time has come to draw the curtain. Ten years after its release, Rock Band 4 will be delisted from the Xbox and PlayStation digital stores, along with many of the DLC songs, starting this weekend, as confirmed by its studio, Harmonix.

The news was announced through the game’s official channel on Reddit, where the bad news was revealed. The reason is simple: after 10 years, the game’s music licenses will begin to expire, both in the base game and in the DLC.

“On Sunday, October 5, 2025, Rock Band 4 turns 10,” reads the team’s statement. “What a ride it’s been. With this milestone comes one big change: the original licenses for the core soundtrack are expiring. Because of that, Rock Band 4 will be removed from the PlayStation and Xbox digital stores. If you already own the game, nothing changes — you’ll keep full access and still be able to download the game and songs to any new, compatible devices. The same applies to Downloadable Content (DLC): songs will come down as they hit the 10-year mark, but anything you’ve purchased will remain in your library.

“We’re so grateful for the passion this community has shown. From the team, it’s been a special experience to serve you with Rivals challenges, a super deep DLC library and a best in class band sim. If you’ve been meaning to grab a few last songs, now’s the time.”

What will happen to my Rock Band content?

As mentioned in the statement, if you already own the game, nothing will change: “you’ll keep full access and still be able to download the game and songs to any new, compatible devices.” This means that if you still have your songs on an Xbox One and you have an Xbox Series X, you will be able to download the game and what you have already purchased without any problems, but DLC songs that were released with the game that you did not purchase at the time will be removed from the store. However, it should be noted that this only affects Rock Band 4 content, as songs released prior to the launch of this installment are not being delisted “yet,” but the team “will be figuring those out over the coming months.”
