Rockstar Games remains king, and this comparison between Mafia: The Old Country (2025) and Red Dead Redemption (2010) proves it

An NPC chopping wood is the subject of this new comparison.

Red Dead Redemption

Rockstar Games is like Naughty Dog. Both studios focus on detail, which often results in spectacular animations and realistic modeling. Everyone remembers the horses in Red Dead Redemption 2 (and what they have between their legs), and it is precisely this series that has caught the attention of a user on X, who has compared the first game with Mafia: The Old Country, a title that has just been released.

As you can see in the video, a lumberjack splits a log with an axe. Although Red Dead Redemption was released in 2010, 15 years ago, Rockstar Games’ version of the classic looks more detailed than Hangar 13’s game, which was developed using Unreal Engine 5, the current version of Epic Games’ engine.

Both games are published by Take-Two

Both Red Dead Redemption and Mafia: The Old Country belong to Take-Two Interactive, although the development studio is different. The former was designed by Rockstar Games, the studio behind GTA 6, while the latter is the work of Hangar 13. Following the closure of 2K Czech in 2017, the new studio took over the Mafia series. It debuted with the third installment, a highly controversial title that received poor reviews from the public and the specialized media. Not so the remake of the first installment, which was widely acclaimed by all.

Mafia: The Old Country returns to the roots of the series and offers a linear, story-driven experience. It takes place entirely on the island of Sicily in the early 20th century. It is available on PS5, Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S, and PC.
