Update:

The wait for GTA 6 has become a unit of measurement for time. That’s why, when a story slips in between trailers, delays, and theories, and does so by talking about life (and its edge), the noise changes texture. In recent hours, the story of a player with a terminal illness whose family asked Rockstar for the chance to try the game before its release as a “last wish” has gone viral.

What is known

The origin of the story points to a LinkedIn post attributed to Anthony Armstrong (a developer at Ubisoft Toronto) in which he explained that a family member, who had been suffering from cancer for years, had been given a prognosis of between six and twelve months. In this context, he asked contacts close to Rockstar (including those at Rockstar Toronto) about the possibility of organizing a private test, assuming from the outset the need for confidentiality and a non-disclosure agreement.

As the days passed, the same message was updated with two brief notes: first, that the CEO of Take-Two had been in touch; then, that they had “spoken” and received “good news,” without being able to provide further details.

A real precedent (and why it sounds credible)

It’s no coincidence that it sounds plausible. Rockstar was already involved in a similar case in 2018: a seriously ill fan was able to see and play a private demo of Red Dead Redemption 2 before its release. At the time, this was described as an exceptional and extremely discreet act, consistent with the studio’s culture: protecting secrecy, but understanding that sometimes it is worth not losing sight of the fact that games are made for the players who are going to buy them.

Officially, Rockstar has set the release date for November 19, 2026, and the project is under enormous scrutiny, where any leak would have (and does have) a huge cost.
