Ryan Reynolds admits he removed a line from ‘Deadpool and Wolverine’ at Disney’s request

Reynolds also reveals the advice Kevin Feige, president of Marvel Studios, gave him.

Although Ryan Reynolds had his reservations, the R-rating for ‘Deadpool and Wolverine’ was great, making it the highest grossing R-rated movie in history. It could have been even better if Disney CEO Bob Iger hadn’t asked the popular actor to remove a line from the script, which Reynolds admitted he had to agree to.

And although many people thought that Reynolds and Shawn Levy (director) would not be able to get very far because of Disney’s tentacles, the fact is that they did, although there was one exception. Reynolds told the audience Tuesday at the Fast Company Innovation Festival in New York that “there was only one line in the entire film that they asked me to take out,” acknowledged the actor and producer of the film, to the sound of murmurs from the audience. “No. No. No! And they were right!”, he says, admitting that he was probably too much of a beast even for this movie.

“As soon as somebody says something, like, ‘Ryan, Bob Iger here. Would love it if you’d take that one line out. It’s really going to make our life hard over here.’ As soon as they say that, there’s just something in my brain that goes, ‘Must keep line! Precious!’ And then as soon as the fog of war lifts and you have a second thought, it’s like, ‘Of course I can take that out. Can I say something about Pinocchio instead? And the answer is yes!”

Advice from Marvel Studios President to Reynolds

Ryan Reynolds also assures that Kevin Fiege, President of Marvel Studios, was kind enough to advise him before he embarked on this adventure. “He said something that sounds very pedantic and is probably not the thing to say out loud, but actually, weirdly, served as a creative engine. He was like, ‘Make every scene great.’ And I was like, ‘Thanks, Kev. Sounds good.’”
